New #1 Louisiana channel cat just shy of world mark

CatfishCraig Durbin's 55-pound channel catfish smashed the Louisiana state record for the species by nearly 25 pounds and came within 3 pounds of the world record 58-pound mark, set by W. H. Whaley in 1964 in South Carolina. Durbin landed the huge cat while fishing with his brother June 6, near the Red River Lock & Dam #2. Reported by outdoor writer Chris Berzas in The (Opelousas) Daily World.
