College runner out-maneuvers grizzly bear

University of Alaska Anchorage cross-country runner Auston Ellis knew better. With a grizzly chomping inches from his rear end, he knew the recommended procedure is to drop and cover. But he ran, anyway. "It was one of those instinct things," he said. Fortunately for the runner, with some quick turns and maneuvers, he got away from the big female without a scratch. Anchorage Daily News outdoor editor Craig Medred reports.
