Feds give states go-ahead to kill protected sea lions

Sealionrocks_2The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has authorized killing up to 85 California sea lions that eat migrating salmon and steelhead below Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River. An amendment to the 1972 Marine Mammals Protection Act permits the killing of sea lions if Columbia River states (Wash. & Ore.) request federal permission. AP reports.
